Harvey Mansfield

Harvey Mansfield is William R. Kenan, Jr. Professor of Government at Harvard University. He studied at Harvard, from which he received his Ph.D., and encountered Strauss through Richard Cox and David Lowenthal. Mansfield attended a reading group that Strauss held in Palo Alto in the early 1960s. He is author of works on major political philosophers and figures including Machiavelli, Tocqueville, Burke, and Thomas Jefferson.
